Anna Apazeller

Anna Apazeller was born August 10, 1931 to Margaret and Adam Haumann in Kurd, Hungary. Along with her older brother John, Anna persevered through a difficult childhood, losing her father at age 9 and living through the ravages of WWII within the European theater. As a family of German ancestry, they were forced out of Hungary and back to Germany as refugees following the war. This all had a significant impact on Anna and remained a frequent reminiscence throughout her life. In 1948 Anna married John Apazeller in the German town of Frankenberg where in 1949 their daughter Gisela was born. In 1956 they followed the path of other family members seeking a brighter future and immigrated to the USA. They settled in Royal Oak, Michigan and Anna quickly found employment in the Linen Service department of William Beaumont Hospital where she worked for the next 37 years. In 1970, Anna and John built their dream home on a small lake in Shelby Township which served as a tremendous source of pride and accomplishment to them. Anna was always in charge, but dedicated much of her life to caring for others, which included having her mother live with them. Together they maintained a tight bond with Gisela’s family and were always present and lending support. John passed away suddenly in 1982 leaving Anna widowed for the remaining 40 years of her life. She continued to provide and care for her mother until her passing in 1990. In the early years of her retirement, Anna leveraged this experience to provide support for a number of elderly individuals that were most grateful for her efforts. Anna loved to work. She was especially particular about her lawn, bushes, flowers, sprinklers, patio, fall leaves, and the bed of rocks running along her shoreline. She loved to sweep, water flowers, and keep all things tidy and new. Anna was strong willed, and it was difficult for her to cede these labors of love in her later years. Her determined personality was wonderfully emotional and excitable, and traces of these traits resonate throughout our family. Anna was a devout Catholic who loved our Lord. She was quick to seek forgiveness and served Him through love and dedication to her family. Anna’s ultimate legacy is that of a hard-working immigrant and matriarch that positioned her family on a trajectory unimaginable at the time of her birth. This is most evident in her daughter, 3 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren that she was so proud of, loved so much, and will always be greatly loved by in return. We will all miss her very much. Anna Apazeller is survived by her daughter, Gisela Tisch (the late Albert); grandchildren–Daniel Tisch (Andrea), David Tisch (Tracee), and Heidi Wiegand (Richard); great-grandchildren–Benjamin, John, Samuel, Adam, Luke, Alayna, William, Andrew, and Aaron. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Apazeller, and brother, John Haumann (Anna). Visitation will be Sunday, October 30th from 3pm to 8pm at the EJ Mandziuk Funeral at 3801 18 Mile Rd in Sterling Heights. Instate at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church October 31st from 11am to 12pm with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 12pm.
