Bernard Simon Markaity

Bernard Simon Markaity, age 90, of Detroit, Michigan passed away peacefully on February 6, 2018. Born in Detroit, Michigan on August 26, 1927 to John and Mary Markaity he lived his life within the Detroit Metropolitan area. Bernard (Bernie) enjoyed life to its fullest. He enjoyed movies, music, reading, sports, politics, history, nature, animals, photography, journalism, art, and most of all his family. He loved to learn new things and you could gain his interest and passion in just about anything you presented to him. He also loved a good political debate with anyone, anytime. He loved his wife Corine dearly and together they enjoyed music, movies, an evening out to a nice dinner, and when they were able they loved to dance. Bernie joined the US Navy in 1945 and during his service he completed Radar Training and Ground Controlled Approach training in addition to his Naval Prep School. He also received a WWII Victory Medal for his service during this period of our country’s history. Bernie received an Honorable Discharge in 1948. Bernie graduated from the University of Detroit with a degree in Journalism. He began working as a salesman for various printing companies, eventually working with William Feather Printers for the majority of his career. Bernie started his family on February 13th, 1954 when he married his beautiful wife of 64 years, Corine (McShane). Bernie is survived by his wife Corine McShane-Markaity, four sons; Daniel (Nancy) Markaity, Tim Markaity, Mark (Susan) Markaity, James Markaity (Deanna Brown), and one daughter; Paula (Kenneth) Markaity –Cicilian. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Kelly, Sean, Allison Markaity, and Tara Cicilian. He will additionally be missed by many extended family members, and many dear friends. The family will receive friends and relatives from 3pm-8pm on Friday, February 9th at E.J. Mandziuk & Son Funeral Home. A scripute service will take place at 7:00 pm. Address of funeral home: 3801 Eighteen Mile Rd, Sterling Heights, MI A Catholic mass will be held at St Jane Frances De Chantal on Saturday, February 10th. Bernard will be in state at 9:30am, with mass beginning at 10am. Address of church: 38750 Ryan Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48310.
