Dorothy Haddock

Dorothy llene Haddock, 97, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026. Born on April 18, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, Dorothy lived a life that spanned 97 years of experiencing the world change from growing up during the great depression, to having her own job at Michigan Bell Telephone Co in the 1950's where she would meet her future husband, to getting married, watching a man land on the moon, to having a touch tone phone, and seeing her children and grandchildren grow up. Dorothy married Charles Haddock in 1957, and together they raised 5 children, Ann, Charles, David, Margaret, and Ruth, in Detroit, Michigan. To her 6 grandchildren, Katie, David, Sarah, Rachel, Elizabeth, and Danielle, and 2 great-grandchildren, Nathan and Natalie, she was simply "Grandma or Nanny" and she always had cookies in the Nanny cookie jar. She was preceded in death by Her parents Theresa and Paul Liebenow and her husband Charles. Dorothy's children would like to thank all of the Barrett Regency staff, Sheila, Taryn, Kathy, Tywana, Chloe, Dawn, Tejanae, and Cheryl for the wonderful care that they gave our Mother for the past 14 months. Obituary on behalf of the children: Grandma was so much more than a grandmother. She was a place of comfort, a safe harbor, and a breath of fresh air when the world sometimes felt too dark. Being in her home felt like stepping away from everything else for a little while and into a place filled with warmth, love and light. Each of us 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren carries our own little pieces of Grandma with us. Whether that was the Polar Express snow globe, Nanny's cookie jar that always seemed to be filled with oatmeal raisin cookies, the old Maid, Yahtzee and Trouble games, and the countless memories made simply by sitting in her home and being near her. We will remember her Saturday mornings, when she faithfully had her hair done before heading to church that evening. W would sometimes surprise her at the salon, and even when she didn't know we were coming, her face would light up when Grandma gave us many things, but perhaps the greatest was a foundation for how to live. She instilled in us the importance our Catholic faith, our values, our standards and, most importantly, how to be good and loving people in a world that can sometimes make that difficult. Some of our favorite childhood memories were the simplest ones! Being spoiled with trips to Dress Barn, Stein Mart, the D Store, Burger King or wherever we asked to go. But it was never the place she took us or what she bought us that mattered. It was that, with Grandma, we always felt safe. We always felt loved. And for a little while, everything in the world felt lighter. know this amazing soul is now rested with the people she used to tell us stories of, and we look forward to the day we can reunite with her again. Funeral arrangements are for Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at St. Anastasia Church. The family will arrive at 9:00 am, and the service will start at 10:00 am with a procession into the church. Burial will follow after the service in the Utica Cemetery.
