Joseph Polcyn

Joseph Peter Polcyn, 92, of Warren, MI, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2023. Beloved and devoted husband of 59 years to Diane. Joseph was born on February 17, 1931 and is fondly remembered by his family including his stepson Ted Andrusz (Lori Harbour), son Mark Polcyn (Christiana), grandchildren Breanna (Justin Kane), Katherine Andrusz, Ryan Andrusz, Isabella Miller, Jeffrey Miller, Jack Miller, Sophia Miller and great grandsons, Nolan and Logan Kane. Joe also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was a devoted family man who took great interest in his sons and grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved watching old westerns and military movies and spending time with the love of his life. He spoiled her as any good husband should do, often driving her to her various activities. He was the ultimate husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Joe enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean War and spent 4-years sailing the seas as a Seaman 1st Class on the USS Waxwing. His travels took him to many exotic places while serving his country. He was very proud of his service and would often tell stories of his time in the Navy. One that he loved to tell is how he stood watch on the bow of his ship and kept hearing noises on the hull of the ship. Crouched down with his rifle, he stayed awake all night hoping and praying the enemy was not scaling the ship. Once daybreak occurred, he peered over the edge and saw a ladder not stowed properly causing the noise. Needless to say, he was terrified but yet stood courageously at his post willing to do what was necessary to protect his ship, his mates, and his country. Joe had a rough childhood being born a Depression era baby. His father passed away at the age of 7 and his mother was forced to juggle multiple jobs to keep finances afloat while raising a large family. While he did not have a father to emulate and learn from, his natural instinct took over once he became a father and ended up being the best DAD in the world. Joe is predeceased by his parents, Michael and Victoria Polcyn, his brothers George and Michael and his sisters, Dorothy, Irene and Virginia. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. His life will be celebrated at Mandziuk & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 2 from 3p – 8pm. A funeral service will be performed at Our Lady of Czestohowa on Thursday, August 3 at 10:30am with a luncheon following at the American Polish Cultural Center.
