Marilyn Blum

Marilyn Ellen Haines-Blum, beloved wife of the late Max Anthony Blum, peacefully passed away on March 14, 2026. Marilyn and Max were both proud graduates of Flint Technical High School, Class of 1955—Go Eagles! Beginning at the age of 14, Marilyn enjoyed helping in her father’s hardware store, where she learned the value of hard work and caring for others. Shortly after graduating, she and Max married and began building a beautiful life together, raising four children. Marilyn devoted many years to being a loving stay-at-home mother, pouring her heart into her family and community. She generously volunteered her time in multiple roles with the Girl Scouts, church groups, Parks and Recreation programs, and many other activities that enriched the lives of those around her. With determination and a lifelong love of learning, Marilyn earned her bachelor’s degree at the age of 50. She then began a successful second chapter of her career as a designer with Ford Motor Company and General Motors, where she worked until her retirement in 1996. In retirement, Marilyn embraced life with joy, gratitude, a sense of adventure, and a quick wit. She enjoyed golfing, tending her garden, participating in church activities, traveling, and — most of all — cherishing time with her growing family. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren (and their spouses) and 12 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and happiness. Above all, Marilyn’s deepest love and guiding light throughout her life was her faith in Jesus, which she shared through kindness, service, and unwavering devotion. Instead of flowers, donations in Marilyn’s memory may be made to Right to Life of Michigan. Marilyn has now gone home to be with the Lord, whom she loved so deeply. Though she will be greatly missed, the love she shared, the faith she lived by, and the kindness (with a touch of spice) she showed to others will continue to shine through her children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and all whose lives she touched. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing." — II Timothy 4:7–8
