Peggy Polak

Peggy passed away on January 14, 2024; unexpectedly, after a long illness. She was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on March 31, 1947. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother; but also, by both husbands Cecil D. McCann (died in Vietnam in 1967) and Theodore T. Polak Jr. (2021). Peggy was a dedicated wife to Theodore T. Polak Jr. for over 53 years. She was also preceded by her brother Steven King and Steve’s first wife Mary Logan. In addition, Timothy McCann, her former brother-in-law preceded her in death along with Gary Wesa. Peggy is survived by her two stepsisters Suzanne Wesa and Kay Klimoski and stepbrother Gary Wesa. Peggy also had a loving, faithful companion of almost 10 years, Rudy Paderewski Peggy’s very much loved and devoted daughter Renee C. Polak, her husband Thomas A. Hearn; along with her beloved grand-puppies; Olivia P, SweetPea, and Princess Ginger Madeline. Her son Jordan C. Polak (wife Cindy M.) along with their daughter Olivia M. Polak. She is also survived by her nephews Eric McCann, James Polak Jr., Kyle Klimoski, Kory Klimoski, and Paul King; in addition to her nieces Kimberly Samson, Paula Amend, Heather Ricchy, Kelly Wolf along with Shelly Suggs. She also leaves behind other extended family from her first husband, and close friends who, in essence, were her family. Peggy fell in love with Ted, they met while cruising downriver. Ted called Peggy his own Breck Girl because of her gorgeous long hair that she had for many years. Peggy and Ted shared a lifelong love of cars. He was the center of her life in retirement. Peggy went back to school later in life at Detroit College of Business and worked in the office for a local insurance agent. Her work life was marked by collaborating with colleagues and former colleagues who inevitably became good friends of hers; she was an easy person to admire and to like. She was a member of the Alexander Macomb DAR chapter. She had a great passion for animal rescue organizations and was a firm believer in adopt don’t shop. Her other interests included a serious addiction to anything Disney. Her love of a beautiful blue-sky Michigan day, sewing and a great appreciation for art brought her great joy. Rather than diminish her, Peggy’s illness seemed only to amplify her courage, determination, strength of character, wit, and just plain love of life. She had a knack for building communities of people; and was about positivity. She has made a significant impact on women younger in age to her. These women are her “adopted” daughters and will miss her terribly. She was an example to all of us, in her too-short time on earth. Peggy’s Celebration of Life will be Monday, March 18th from 3-6 pm at the Sterling Heights Chapel of the Mandziuk & Son Funeral Directors (3801 18 Mile Road) A short service will follow at 6pm.
