Philip Kurian Analil

Philip Kurian Analil, born July 11, 1936, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, formerly of Uzhavoor, Kottayam, Kerala, passed peacefully into eternity on August 1, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by faith, family, service, and quiet strength. Born the seventh of eight children to Aleyamma (Alappatt) and Kurian Analil, Philip was predeceased by his parents and all seven of his siblings. Philip was a man of simple tastes and deep conviction. After attending school in Uzhavoor, he enlisted in the Indian Army Medical Corps, beginning a lifetime of service marked by humility, discipline, and compassion. In 1967, he married Cicily (Alappatt–Neeralkottil) of Neezhoor. Their marriage began across countries and continents landing in Detroit where they raised their two children. Their love endured until Cicily's passing in 1987. In 1989, Philip married Mercy (Vattaparambil–Vattakallam/Valayil), blending their families into one of five children and creating a home centered on faith, hospitality, and love. For 30 years, Philip worked as a phlebotomist at Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he was known for his gentle touch and caring spirit. He was proud of both his Indian heritage and his adopted home in America, remaining deeply committed to his faith and the Detroit community. A devoted member of the Syro-Malabar Catholic community, Philip played an important role in helping establish its early presence in Michigan, including bringing the first Syro-Malabar priest from India to serve the growing community. Following retirement, he returned to another lifelong passion—writing. He authored three books in Malayalam, sharing his faith, reflections, and lifelong curiosity with future generations. Philip is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Mercy; his sisters-in-law, Chinnamma (Kalapurickal) widow of Stephen, and Molly (Kopuzha), widow of Kuriakose; his children, Neena & John Pottoore, Cyril, Teena & Thomas Changarathil, Sonia & Chetan Joshi, and Steven; and his cherished grandsons, Ethan and Marcus Pottoore, Christian Changarathil, Jeevan and Pavan Joshi, and his beloved grandson, Matthew Changarathil, who preceded him to heaven. Philip will be remembered for his quiet wisdom, unwavering faith, gentle humor, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the community he helped build, and the countless lives he touched through kindness, humility, and service.
