Wanda Marianna Gorski, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, December 14 Born to Marianna Rozek and Adam Galeza Beloved wife of the late Ludwik Gorski Loving mother of Teresa Gorski Szewczyk and the late Sophie Chrobak and loving mother-in-law of Ludwik Chrobak and Michael Szewczyk Cherished grandmother of Paul Chrobak, Michael Chrobak, Mark Chrobak, Michelle Szewczyk, and Katie Szewczyk Richardson Treasured great-grandmother of Lucas Chrobak, Alex Chrobak, Jacob Chrobak, Casper Chrobak, Calliope Chrobak, Apolonia Chrobak, Cecilia Richardson, and Raegan Chrobak Dear sister of Stefan, Henryk, Tadeusz, and Alina Age: 93 years, 8 months and 18 days Wanda Marianna Gorski was born on Thursday, March 28th, 1929 in Bogoria, Poland. Her childhood was spent in World War II Poland in her small town. Due to the war, her education ended at the 7th grade. Despite limited formal education, Wanda was always good with numbers, bookkeeping and accounting. She was a shopkeeper and seamstress in Poland. Always forward thinking, Wanda was the first woman in her Polish town to break the tradition of women always wearing skirts and dresses and instead wore pants in the 1950s. Seeking a better life for her family, Wanda convinced her husband to immigrate from Poland to the United States in 1967. Her family settled in the southwest side of Detroit, MI. She worked as a housekeeper in the private tower of Henry Ford Hospital on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit. She was honored to be cared for at the hospital after her recent stroke. A lifelong avid gardener, Wanda won beautification awards from the city of Sterling Heights. She worked on her backyard garden year round, preparing it for each summer season. The pinnacle of Polish hospitality, Wanda was always ready to greet guests in her home with a warm beverage and snack. A master cook of pączki, zupa, and pierogi. Wanda joyfully fed her family for many holidays and everyday life. Beyond gardening, Wanda’s second greatest joy was her 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Her loving, determined and inspirational self will be missed deeply by all who knew her. On Wednesday, December 14th 2022 Wanda passed away peacefully with her family by her side. A member of the Silent Generation, Wanda always believed her actions spoke louder than words. Wanda never met a problem she couldn’t solve or an obstacle she couldn't overcome. Her work ethic was legendary and she consistently focused on achievement. A trait she passed on to her children and grandchildren. All of whom achieved professional degrees, an opportunity she was denied. When instructed by doctors to “rest” at her recent hospital admission, Wanda replied, “Why? I haven’t done any work today.”
