Harold E. Cooper Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Harold Edward Cooper, 79, of Chesterfield, Michigan, was born in Highland Park, Michigan on January 13, 1943, to Henry and Mavis Cooper and went to be with the Lord on July 26, 2022. Harold and his “Bride” Jeannette were married in 1964 and enjoyed a loving marriage of over 52 years until her death in 2017. Harold is survived by his children Ron (Virginia), Don (Thea) and Crystal Smith (Adam Houle). Affectionate Papa to Janine (Yogi), Geremy (Danielle), Katie, Ashley (Cory), Brady, Cole, Seth, Brennen, Gaven, Nathen, Stephanie, Nikklas, Noah and Cheyann. Old Papa to great-grandchildren Paul, Lillian, Kayla, Mady, Audra, Lachlyn, Sara, Lilly, Atrayu, Ayden, Todd and Sunny. He is also survived by brother Eddie (Sheila), sister Cindy (Charlie) Collier, brother-in-law James (Carmella) Spinek, sisters-in-law Suzanne Templin and Ann Spinek, as well as many nieces and nephews and special friends Randy and Dona Radcliff. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son Tom, brother Gary, sister Patricia, grandson Josh and brother-in-law Richard. Harold was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend. He never compromised his belief in God and family and made them his priority. He was always ready with a joke, was a friend to anyone he met, saw the good in people, and gave selflessly to those in need. Following in his father’s footsteps, Harold became an Ironworker Apprentice in 1962 and upgraded to Journeyman in 1965. He was elected Iron Workers Local Union No. 25 Business Agent in 1973 and Vice-President/Business Agent in 1976. 2022 marks his 60th anniversary as a member of Local 25. In February 1987 Harold was appointed General Organizer of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers and elected President of the Iron Workers District Council of Michigan-Great Lakes and Vicinity serving in these two capacities for seventeen years until his retirement in 2004. Since becoming General Organizer he has served on the General Executive Board and the General Executive Council of the Michigan State AFL-CIO. Throughout his career, Harold was dedicated to continuing the efforts of his father, Henry, particularly with the pre-engineered sector of Local 25’s jurisdiction. Because of Harold’s perseverance, the pre-engineered construction industry experienced tremendous growth, with an increase in membership, union contractors and man-hours. Visitation is at Mandziuk & Son Funeral Directors of Sterling Heights on July 31, 2022, from 3:00 until 8:00 pm and on August 1, 2022, from 10:00 until 11:00 am. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township.
