On October 24, 2020 Marion Mulhern passed away quietly in her home in Sterling Heights MI, the same home she lived in for over 50 years. Marion is survived by her two sons, Daniel (Maria) Mulhern and Thomas (Andrea) Mulhern. Marion also has 2 grandchildren Christina Mulhern and Michelle Mulhern along with two step Grandchildren Michael (Raven) Contesti and Madison Layman. Marion is also great grandmother to Royale Johnson. Marion also loved to visit with her her brother James (Sandy) Gillis and had numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved spending time with or talking with on the phone. Marion was predeceased by her husband Daniel Mulhern, her parents James and Pauline Gillis, Her sister Helen Taormina and brother John (Phyllis) Gillis. Marion was an active member of St. Ephrem Catholic Church and was also a long time member of the St. Blasé church choir. Her love of music began as a child at Nativity Parish in Detroit and spanned nine decades. Marion has had the honor of singing in the church choir at Carnegie Hall in New York city and in the Vatican. One of her career highlights was taking part in the 1987 visit of Pope John Paul II to the Silverdome by performing with her choir on that occasion. Marion’s friends from the choir were her closest friends and she cherished the times she spent with them. Marion has also been an avid sports fan throughout her life. Her love of baseball began when her father would attend Detroit Tiger games with her. Marion introduced this passion to both of her sons taking them to see the Tigers play often in the summers on Saturday family days. In her last days, Marion spent time with her son Thomas watching several World Series games. Marion didn’t limit herself only to baseball though. She enjoyed watching Football, Hockey and even basketball when a local team was doing well. She would even watch the big golf tournaments. Most of all, Marion loved to spend time with family. Coming from a close family growing up she knew the importance of FAMILY! She would attend every event she could including holidays and birthdays, often being one of the last to leave. She kept track of the lives and health of everyone on both her own side and her husband’s family. Her love for family was her most important attribute. Marion will be missed by all who knew her, but she will not be forgotten. A memorial will take place on Sunday November first from 4-8 PM A rosary at 6 pm followed by a Eulogy period. Mass will take place on Monday November second, 11 AM at St. Ephrem Catholic Church 38900 Dodge Park Rd., Sterling Heights MI.
