Steven Michael Hertz

Steven Michael Hertz, age 59, of Warren, Michigan, passed away on February 18th, 2022 surrounded by his close family who loved him dearly. Steve was a lifelong resident of Warren and graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1980. He was predeceased by his mother Myrtle Hertz, father Edward Hertz, brothers Danny Hertz, Gary Hertz and Duane Hertz, as well as his brother-in-law Richard Klank Sr. and sister-in-law Mary Hertz. He is survived by his siblings, Carol Klank, Gail Alan (Susan) Hertz, Sandra Hertz, Jimmie Hertz, Dennis (Karen) Hertz, Sharon (Donald) Haight, Bruce (Sharon) Hertz, Ruth (Joseph) Peters, Joseph Hertz, and Gregory Hertz as well as his sisters-in-law Sandi Hertz, Carol Hertz and Regina Hertz. He is also the cherished uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who brought him pure joy. He was the most beloved Godfather to several godchildren. He had an extra special bond with his brothers Joe and Greg, his buddy Paul Tominch and his dear friend Theresa Elkins. Steve followed in his father’s towing and recovery footsteps and took over his parents’ business, South Macomb Towing, Inc. which was founded by his parents in 1949, out of his childhood home in Warren. Coupled with running his towing company, he was self-employed as a “repo man.” He loved a good challenge on a dark night through the streets of Detroit and Macomb County looking for vehicles that were up for repossession. Steve had the most inviting smile and was known as a very generous man. He never told anybody no, especially his nieces and nephews. He always took great care of them and spoiled them any opportunity he had. He carried that same sentiment forward to his many great nieces and nephews as well. “Uncle Steve” was everyone’s favorite – he was known to pull out a $100 bill and treat them all to anything they wanted from the menu at Dairy Queen. He loved giving, spending time in northern Michigan, getting dressed up for night out, enjoying cocktails on a Friday with friends, playing cards- especially poker, family parties, Holiday gatherings, cars, and a nice meal out. Steve’s family and friends are left with a void in their heart and he will be greatly missed by all that knew him. In honor of Steve, please do something kind for someone today.
