Joseph Gregory Zub

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph G. Zub, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world June 19, 2025. Joseph (Joe) was born to Joseph and Helen Zub on February 17, 1946 and grew up in Dearborn, MI, where he graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in 1964. He bravely served his country as infantry with the 1st Cavalry Division out of Ft. Hood, Texas, from January 1967 to January 1969. His time in Vietnam earned him three Army Commendation Medals and forever defined his courage and dedication. Following his military service, Joe pursued higher education and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. He was deeply committed to his community and served as a volunteer probation officer in the City of Troy for ten years starting in the late seventies, focusing on pre-sentence evaluations. He then spent the majority of his Human Resource management career at H O Trerice where he met his beloved wife, Sandy. A devout Catholic, Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus as a 4th Degree Knight and committed to service in the church choir at Saint Rene Goupil Parish. He also taught catechism at St. Rene for several years and volunteered his time during the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, reflecting his unwavering faith, until the time of his death. Known for his infectious humor, Joe had a knack for making jokes and bringing laughter to everyone around him. His ability to make others smile was a cherished gift, and his warmth and humor will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Joe cherished his role as Sandy's "Waterboy," helping her tend to their garden, and found immense joy in spending time with his three grandchildren, James, Joseph, and Jackson. Whether camping in the "truck house" (RV), exploring the vibrant city of Detroit, or enjoying the slots at the casinos, Joe lived life with enthusiasm and love. His two cats, Bonnie and Clyde, were his playful companions. Joe is predeceased by his father Joseph, mother Helen, brother Edward and brother-in-law Carl (Barbara) Romano. He leaves behind his devoted wife Sandra, son Gregory Zub, daughters Rebecca (Bryan) Eckstein, Victoria Romano, and Angela Avigne, and cherished grandsons James Eckstein, Joseph Zub, and Jackson Eckstein. Joe's legacy is one of love, service, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at Mandziuk & Son Funeral Directors, Inc. - 3801 18 Mile Road Sterling Heights, MI 48314 In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Vietnam Veterans of America at VVA.ORG.
