Lindsay Piejak

Our beloved son, brother, and uncle Lindsay Piejak, 54, of Troy, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2023. Lindsay was born in Pontiac, Michigan on February 8, 1969. The family moved to Troy from Auburn Hills in 1974 and Lindsay attended Troy schools. He attended Michigan State University where he graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science, Interdisciplinary Studies. After graduation Lindsay worked at Mongolian Barbecue in Royal Oak, enjoying working with friends in the fun and social setting. He then decided to pursue his passion to help people by attending nursing school at Oakland University, where he graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He worked at Medilodge Skilled Nursing Care Home in Rochester Hills until 2021 when he left to become caregiver for his father. Lindsay was predeceased by his father, Larry, in 2021. Lindsay will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Lorraine, sisters Dr. Lisa Piejak (Jim Prokup) of West Bloomfield, MI; Linda (Kevin) Mitchell, of Andover, MA; and by adoring nephew Greysen Mitchell and adoring nieces Lauryn and Katie Prokup; Aunt Carol and Uncle Bill Schuster of Romeo, MI; Aunt Diana Piejak (Uncle Tommy, deceased) of Washington Township, MI; Aunt Pat and Uncle Ronnie Piejak of Troy, MI; and beloved cousins Maryanne McShane, Bradley (Shannon) Schuster, Kimberly (Paul) Cappellano, Michael (Dawn Randazzo) Piejak, Paul (Trish) Piejak, and Patrick (Lynette) Piejak and their families. Lindsay will also be fondly remembered by his many friends. Lindsay loved to play soccer and he played travel soccer in middle school and high school as a member of the Troy Tornado. At Athens High School he was a member of the varsity soccer team when they won the state championship in 1984. Lindsay attended Michigan State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. A year later Linda joined him at Michigan State University. Linda was a member of Delta Gamma sorority and they had many friends in common. Lindsay was the fraternity big brother of Kevin Mitchell, who was to become his brother-in-law. A couple of years later Lisa joined Lindsay at Michigan State University when she began graduate studies. Lisa fondly remembers the time when she and Lindsay were surprised to find out that she was the graduate assistant for his psychology class. She remembers walks around campus and the botanical garden, movie nights, and meet-ups at Espresso Royale in East Lansing. Lisa, Lindsay, Kevin, and Linda were able to share a fun Spring Break together in Key West in 1990. Lindsay was always generous and quick to offer help to anyone in need. Many of the family’s neighbors appreciated his help with handy jobs and shoveling snow. He had a big heart and he was known for his kindness, caring, compassion, and positive attitude as a nurse. He also provided exceptional care to his parents during his father’s long illness. Lindsay loved his family. He also had a special place in his heart for his dog niece Rosie. He enjoyed fishing and had a great collection of fishing rods, lures, and gear. He loved his Jeep, the outdoors, and spending time on his fishing boat. He loved cooking and baking and was known for his chili and Christmas cheese ball and holly cookies. Lindsay was smart, quick-witted, and stubborn. One time in fourth grade he was assigned to write a report about Belgium, but he took the artistic license to write the report about his favorite country, Poland. Another time in high school he gave Mohawk haircuts to several of his cousin Brad’s friends on the Roseville Brablec football team and they were all briefly suspended from school until they came back with normal haircuts. Lindsay had a great sense of humor and always kept us laughing. He also was an extraordinary trivia buff and knew a lot about a lot of things, or, as we liked to laugh, “everything about nothing.” He was an avid Spartan fan and loved Spartan football and basketball. Mom remembers what a delightful, easy baby Lindsay was. Lisa and Linda have many treasured memories of growing up with Lindsay in Troy, spending long summer days playing in the neighborhood or swimming in the family’s pool, spending winter days building snowmen and snow forts in the yard and ice skating on the frozen pool, and spending terrific holidays with beloved grandparents and family. Lindsay adored his nephew and nieces, and Greysen, Lauryn, and Katie fondly remember vacations with Uncle Lindsay to Boyne City and Boyne Mountain, and to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. Lindsay was a great son, brother, and uncle and we were so lucky to have him. He will be so truly missed. The family is having a private funeral service this week.
