Robert Donovan

Robert (Bob/Dad/Grandpa/Gpa) Thomas Donovan, a resident of Sterling Heights and former long-time resident of Clawson, MI, passed away on July 30, 2026, at age 96. Born on August 18, 1929, Bob shared 70 years of marriage with Marie E. Donovan (nee: Godin). Together they raised five daughters and built a life centered on family, faith, and the everyday moments that come from spending seven decades together. Bob proudly served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a radio repairman. After returning home, he continued his career as a journeyman electrician and remained a dedicated member of IBEW local 58 for more than 75 years. Bob will be remembered for his quiet strength and steady presence. He loved golf, bowling and a good game of euchre, but his greatest enjoyment came from gathering with family for holidays, birthdays, and other celebrations. A long-time member of the Clawson-Troy Elks Club, Bob was honored as Elk of the Year in 1983 in recognition of his dedication and service. In addition to Marie, Bob is survived by his daughters, Denise Grigsby, Donna (Drew) Ballard, Janet (Paul) Tabor, Judith (Jerry) Perez, and Kathleen (Randy) Iaquinto. He was also the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren: Scott (Jackie) Skinner, Lauren Skinner, Craig (Jenna) Ballard, Jake Tabor, Robert (Kelsey) Perez, Jill Perez, Julia Iaquinto, Michael Iaquinto; and five great-grandchildren: Jack, Jonathan, James, Harper and Hazel. He is also survived by his brother, Gerald (Eileen) Donovan, and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Harry F. and Elsa M. Donovan (nee: Schneider), sisters Marge Custance, Mildred Dubrel, Rosemary Goren, Joann Wolfenden; brothers Harry, Richard, Eugene and Raymond; and his son-in-law James Grigsby. Bob will lie in repose on Monday, August 3 from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church located at 38750 Ryan Road in Sterling Heights. A Memorial Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Bob will be inurned at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bob’s honor, can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Disabled American Veterans.
